*AGENDA: Co-presidents Natasha Gordon & Amelia Hecker
*Welcome and thank you all for attending our first official meeting of the year. We hope to keep future meetings short and to the point. Our goal is to end by 9am.
As this is the first meeting of the year, we have a lot to discuss and therefore may run past that time.
*OUR HARVEST– Danielle Brady
Our Harvest is an online market that stocks local fresh, organic produce, meats, fish and clean label pantry items. Groceries can be ordered online and are delivered on Tuesday’s for pick-up
at the elementary school. Free samples will be offered next Tuesday at pick-up. When you register online you can receive 25% off with your first order using code KIDS. A portion of all sales (5%)
go directly to helping the PCA. There is no minimum purchase required. www.ourharvest.com
*CARNIVAL-Claudia Ames
Many volunteers have already signed up, however we are still in need of people to set-up and break-down the inflatables. Information was emailed by Dr.Z and posted on Facebook with a link to volunteer.
Please sign your name (google docs) if you wish to help. Unlike previous years, we will not be grilling burgers on-site. Instead we will have an “Italian Feast” featuring Lasagna, garlic bread, hero subs etc.
All ingredients will be posted on the website. Prices will range from $1-$6.
*PCA Website – Claudia Ames
We are looking to make our website ADA compliant by the end of the school year.
*PCA ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS
Upcoming programs will need parent volunteers to assist with the activities after school. These activities range from Clay Nation art classes to Judo/Tennis/Acting classes etc.
An email will be sent in the upcoming weeks.
*FUNDRAISERS (primary.com and teacollection.com)
Primary.com is a unisex clothing company that does not feature any labels, logos or slogans. They produce high quality basic clothing for children at prices under $25. When you purchase from this
website 10-15% goes back to our school. You will receive 20% off your first order when you sign up and register. Along with this website, www.teacollection.com is also offering 15% off for Sea Cliff parents, free
shipping and 15% back to the PCA during the week of Oct.9th-16th. This is a one-week only online event.
-Amazon Smiles (www.smile.amazon.com) also offers a small percentage back to our school with every amazon purchase you make. You need to register online or with the amazon app.
Chose Sea Cliff Elementary when registering.
-The 3rd Grade students are in need of fundraising efforts to cover costs of school trips and no funds are currently available. Ideas to be discussed at next meeting.
*GARDEN CLUB– Maria Mosca
Are you interested in Garden Club? Maria is trying to sort out a day/time for meetings. Current suggestion is Friday or possibly Saturday mornings. This Saturday landscape fabric is being laid down. Parent
volunteers are needed to rake out old debris. Please email Maria Mosca for more information.
EVENTS – Lori Kilada & Sarah Regan
*SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR
This is a wonderful event that takes place every year in the school library. We are in need of new chairs to take over and organize this event as the old ones will age-out this year. It is a very intensive yet rewarding experience.
New chairs are also needed for the annual kindergarten “Popsicles & Playground” event.
Sea Cliff singers will take place October 5th
Art Club for 4th & 5th Graders will start October 15th
Winter Concert will take place December 13th
-more info to follow
*The Art Room is in need of recyclable items such as old blocks, legos, used calendars, tupperware, non-food containers*
*Ms.Zidel is our parent-teacher liaison. The question about air-conditioning was brought up by several attendees. It is so hot outside, why do we still not have a/c? Can we fundraise for window units? One parent wanted to buy them with her own money.
They would be more efficient than fans. The answer to this question was no. There is a district issue with electricity and zoning laws, it is not so much to do with the cost of the units themselves. However, this issue is currently on the new superintendent’s radar.
Meanwhile, in an attempt to keep the building cooler, a roof has been replaced with a lighter color material. Not really sure if this will help much.
*SEPTA
There will be a SEPTA Fundraiser, Thursday November 2nd at Still Partners.
*LAC/NSCASA– Deb McDermott
Deb is the newly elected village trustee and is using her position to represent our school at the government level. She is also interested in creating a “kids council”. More info to be given out in future meetings.
Meanwhile, Village Board meetings take place on the 1st and 2nd Monday’s of each month at the village hall. All are welcome to attend and she encourages us to check out the Sea Cliff Open Government facebook page.
NSCASA stands for Coalition Against Substance Abuse…our district has a particularly bad problem with underage drinking, 10.9 years being the average age that children will try alcohol. On October 2nd at the Glen Head
Community Center there will be a NSCARA to address these issues. The last meeting only had a total of 4 parent attendees. Kindergarten class parent, Tannaz Balooch gave an impassioned speech urging more parents to attend these crucial meetings.
Drug and alcohol abuse are becoming a huge problem within the North Shore school district. Parents need to become more vigilant and involved with these issues. If you can make the time for the next meeting, please show up.
Information was also verbally given out regarding APPR- Annual Professional Portfolio Review: Teachers are currently assessed on common core testing amongst children. Our current board does not find this to be in the best interest of the children.
Parents have the option to opt out. Sea Cliff had a 46% opt-out rate last year. A future meeting will be set in January to review matters.
*BOE REPORT– Sara Jones
The BOE and Budget vote falls on MAY 15TH every year *everyone needs to know this date*! Put it in your diary now! If you are not registered to vote then register now at the Sea Cliff Votes website. Meanwhile, school board meetings are open
to everyone. They take place in the High School library where many important issues are discussed. Public comment is ALWAYS allowed. There is a meeting this Tuesday at 7.30pm if anyone would like to attend. Check the district website for more information.
RAFFLE- A raffle was drawn at the meeting by Sarah Regan. The lucky winners of two beautiful Mums were attendees Tannaz Balooch and Alicja McCrudden. Congrats!
BUDGET VOTE- Everyone was in favor for passing the budget!
Meeting Ended 10.27am.
