Kinder:
In kindergarten we are establishing classroom routines, establishing rules and working as a community of helpers. We are launching our writer’s workshop by writing about small moment stories. In reader’s workshop we are exploring environmental print, emerging them with emergent readers such as Three Billy Goats Bluff, The Little Red Hen and other texts that have repetitive phrasing. We are celebrating our differences and discussing and sharing what makes us special. In math we are exploring similarities and differences as well as working on numbers and writing numerals 1-5.

1st:
First grade is writing small moments, learning about weather, in math we are doing addition stories and number bonds. We will be going to the Pumpkin Patch in SC next week and the following week we will go to the Brookville Outdoor Educational Site to learn about how people lived long ago.

2nd:
The 2nd grade is studying their Local Community and having local community members come in to be interviewed by the students.
We will be heading to Old Bethpage in a few weeks to continue our S.S. unit and zoom in more on how communities have changed over time.
The students are getting deeper into their reading and writing units; writing personal narratives and reading new and exciting chapter books!

3rd:
Third grade is in full swing. We are immersed in our reading lives, writing personal narratives and developing our math skills. We are loving our Keva planks and have used them to apply concepts we are studying in science and social studies. We are excited for our Art Partners program to continue with the Nassau County Museum of Art…first trip is Oct 29th.

4th:
4th grade is hard at work! Kids are learning about the great state of ny, exploring character traits and storytelling. They are also practicing math facts! It’s been a busy month!
5th:
Continuing work on personal narratives in writing, just took first math test of the year, did a few team building activities to start the year. Excited for circus coming up (special experience for 5th graders) and working on the iPads.
