OUTDOOR LEARNING
See attachment below for more information.
-Geographically it is a challenge to find the best areas for an outdoor meeting space, outdoor science lab and gardening.
-We need multiple spaces to serve these functions.
-With the help of a $2,000 Viking grant there are plans to enhance the learning log meeting space.
-The school and PCA are working with a consultant to create a raised bed student gardening area around the flag pole. The consultant has also worked with the Waldorf School and Hampton Bays schools to create student gardens. The students will learn how to create and care for the garden. There are many creative ideas for the food that will be grown such as serving it in the cafeteria. Compost from the cafeteria can also be used in the gardens.
-Mr. Zublionis is also planning a hands on outdoor science lab area. This will most likely be in the school courtyards.
-The final outdoor learning initiative are outdoor field experiences. For example the 11th grade worked with the Sea Cliff fifth graders and Ms. Krupin at our local beach conducting a water study and clean up
